Discover Nerikomi, a Japanese technique that uses layers of coloured clay to create patterns. You’ll start with a clay kit ready for you with a selection of colour stained clays before diving into learning the intricacies of staining clay with your choice of accent colour. Then through stacking and slicing, you’ll learn how to create simple patterns with hand-built forms to showcase your beautiful work.
What you will leave with:
Confidence to stain clay
An understanding of creating simple patterns in clay
Knowledge about drying and finishing your work
2-4 pieces, small bowls and dishes
This workshop is beginner friendly and open to all levels of experience—just come ready to experiment and have fun.

Deborah is a Toronto-based ceramic artist working in hand-building, with a background in textiles and design that informs her layered approach to clay. Her work explores patterns in nature through Nerikomi. In Deborah’s workshops, she focuses on accessible techniques and encourages playful experimentation.
