Kiln Firing Form
To accept outside firing services please read the information below and agree by filling out the form.
Terms and Conditions
The outside kiln firing service is used at the individuals own risk. I always do my best to successfully fire all work, but I accept no responsibility for damage caused during the firing of the kiln or handling of the work prior, during, or after firings.
The firing schedule is available below to view upcoming firings. Though firings are listed, you must always confirm with the studio owner/kiln tech if you can participate in any of the upcoming firings. DO NOT SHOW UP WITH WORK FOR A FIRING WITHOUT CONFIRMATION BY THE STUDIO OWNER/KILN TECH THAT WE ARE ABLE TO FIRE YOUR WORK FOR AN UPCOMING FIRING. Dates and times are subject to change without notice.
We ask for sizes and number of pieces before confirming that we can provide firing for a specific date, if there are more pieces, or the work is not the sizes stated by you, we reserve the right to refuse firing.
Information about clay, slip types their firing ranges, glaze and its specific information enables us to fire your work in the most effective way, and minimizes possible damage firing can cause.
I do not fire raw glazed work and unknown clays to minimize possible damage to the kiln, your work, and work in the kiln from other studio members and artists.
For health and safety reasons I cannot fire anything that would create a vast amount of smoke/heavy smell, i.e. clay having significant amount of organic materials inside, paper clay or materials that produce toxic fumes while burning.
Our regular kiln firing temperatures are Cone 04 for bisque firing, and Cone 6 for glaze firing. Specialty firing may be able to be carried out (i.e. lustre fires, slow cooling programs, alternate cone temps) please reach out through our contact page for further inquires including timings, what can be done, and pricing.
I will refuse firing of work that isn’t safe for the kilns or surrounding work, or which might cause serious damage to the equipment, or may pose a health and safety threat. I do not need to provide any reasons to refuse firing.
If your work damages the kiln shelves or kiln elements you will be charged an appropriate maintenance fee and or replacement cost, determined by the studio owner and based on the amount of damage and labour involved.
If you are firing glazes that will run, please make trays, kiln furniture, and or cookies for your pieces. If you have no experience using a particular glaze, please make tests before glazing larger work. Please provide full information about your glazes on arrival; doing so will greatly reduce the risk of damage and help me prep pieces to fire effectively. If your work damages other pieces in the firing, you will be charged the cost of firing and refiring for the damaged pieces.
You can only collect or drop off work during the hours agreed upon with the studio owner/kiln tech. Hours may vary outside term times.
I process work as quickly as I can. Please allow 0.5 to 3 weeks for a firing, or the timing stated that we have agreed upon. If you have deadlines please provide them when inquiring to participate in an outside firing so we can do our best to get it to you for then.
When you bring in your work for a firing, your work must already be bone dry for a bisque firing, and glazed work fully ready for a kiln. Have your kiln furniture ready, and or bases wiped. If wanting to use studio kiln furniture and or cookies please indicate when inquiring to participate in a firing or at time of drop off. If damage or loss occurs to any studio kiln furniture, cookies, shelves or any other kiln or studio equipment, the cost will be added to you firing fee to be paid before collection of items.
You will receive an email stating to total cost of the firing service to be paid below in the “Firing service” product, with terms and instructions listed below OR via cash. A confirmation of completion time will be given as soon as possible given my firing schedule. Please pay stated service fee in full before collection of items.
Cost for outside firing is $32.50+HST per shelf (26” round x 6” tall). Price is prorated based on size and number of items brought in for firing, with a minimum charge of $20+HST.
I may not be able to accept new work if the studio is too busy, if you have unsettled payments, or unreasonably short deadlines.
No refunds will be given for any paid firing services.
Please be aware the work may be photographed while in process. Please let know if you prefer images of your work to not be shared on social media.
