Kiln Firing Form

To accept outside firing services please read the information below and agree by filling out the form.

  • Firing service customers use the kiln service at their own risk. I am always doing my best to successfully firing work for my customers, but also I accept no responsibility for damage caused during the firing of the kilns or handling of the work.

  • Information about clay, slip types their firing ranges, glaze and its particulars enables us to fire your work in the most efficient way, and ensure it fits the framework of your project, and minimizes possible damage firing can cause. If your project is complex and requires large commitment from the kiln technician, I may only be able to carry it out with an advance arrangement. I do not fire raw glazed work and unknown clays in the studio kilns to minimize possible damage to the kilns and work itself.

  • For health and safety reasons I cannot fire anything that would create a vast amount of smoke/heavy smell, i.e. clay having significant amount of organic materials inside, paper clay or materials that produce toxic fumes while burning. If you want to minimize the cost of a firing and share a kiln, our regular kiln firing temperatures are 1945°F for bisque firing, and approx. 2232°F for glaze firing. Please take a picture of the pieces you want me to fire and send it via mns/WhatsApp, also sign your pieces to make sure work does not get lost in the process.

  • I will refuse firing of work that isn’t safe for the kilns or surrounding work, or which might cause serious damage to the equipment, or may pose a health and safety threat.

  • If your work damages the kiln shelves or kiln elements you will be charged the replacement cost. If you are firing glazes that will run, please make trays for your pieces. If you have no experience using a particular glaze, please make tests before glazing large work to avoid disappointment. Please provide full information about your glazes on arrival; doing so will greatly reduce the risk of damage and will help me provide best service. If your work damages other pieces in the firing, you will be charged the cost of firing of the damaged pieces. If damage to your work occurs during a shared firing, we will not charge

  • Collection/ delivery: You can only collect or drop off work during the hours agreed via text message/WhatsApp. Our hours may vary outside term times. Please allow enough time to unpack your work. If you have a lot of pieces arrive early, so we can close promptly.

  • Timing: I process work as quickly as I can. Please allow 1 to 2 weeks for a firing, or the timing stated that we have agreed upon. When you bring it in, your work must already be bone dry for bisque firing, and glazed work fully ready for a kiln. Have your glaze firing props ready, or bases wiped

  • Please be aware the work may be photographed while in process. Please let know if you prefer images of your work to not be shared on social media. Help me support wellbeing at the workplace and notify me if you work has explicit or sensitive content ;)

  • Communication You will receive an invoice, and a confirmation of completion time as soon as possible given my firing schedule. Please pay invoices in full either before collection by bank transfer or in cash when picking up work. We are unable provide regular mns/ WhatsApp, email updates on the progress of your projects. You will be charged for damage your work causes, as outlined above. Make props and glaze trays for anything challenging or experimental. Extra charges apply for slower programmes or firing of large sculptural work that demands a slower curve. I reserve the right to refuse service with no explanation. I may not be able to accept new work if the studio is too busy, if you have unsettled invoices, or unreasonably short deadlines.
