Lustres

We are using Overglazes / Lustres firing at cone 019-018 for this firing.

Info

  • Lustres types are an overglaze - meaning lustres are to be applied after your work has gone through a glaze firing

  • Lustres can be finicky to apply and are quite expensive as they contain liquid precious metals

  • Lustres are sensitive, there is a chance of off gases that may alter the finish in this mixed lustre firing.

  • Lustre fire will take place March 21 - you must communicate with Jes via email by March 16 if you want to participate in this firing with the amount of pieces and sizes of those pieces.

  • Lustres are extremely potent in smell therefore you cannot apply lustres in the studio. You will have to apply at home by an open window or under a fume hood with a respirator and let off gas or apply outside the studio with our patio table and let off gas completely (several hours) before bringing into the studio. Please plan accordingly when doing your work and have things ready, including properly off-gassed for the lustre fire (a good idea to have everything done 24hrs before the fire.). Absolutely no exceptions as this is for health and safety of our studio.

  • As we know in ceramics, though following firing programs sometimes things don’t end up how you expect - lustres are no different and participating in this firing you understand and agree to the unknown!

This isn’t to scare, but to inform so you can make the decision if you would like to participate in one of our upcoming lustre fires.
